Abu Dhabi Airport Check-In

Before your flight departs you will be required to check in and drop off any luggage that is to go in the hold. There are a number of different ways you can do this before your flight which are outlined below.

Abu Dhabi Airport Check in desks

You can start to check in between three to four hours before your flight departure time. This depends on the airline so please check your ticket for precise instructions. Check in desks usually close one hour before the flight departure time.

On arrival at the airport you will need to check the flight departures board to find out which check in desk you need to proceed to.  Please make sure you have your passport, flight ticket or booking confirmation documents ready before you get to the check in counter.

Abu Dhabi Airport Online check in

Most airlines will now allow you to check in online 24 hours before your flight departure time. This enables you to confirm your presence on the flight and select your seat, some airlines will even allow you to select extra options such as meal preferences.  You will be required to print you boarding pass prior to arrival and then when you do arrive at the airport you will only need to go to the Bag Drop counter to check in your luggage.

Abu Dhabi Remote Check in

There are four remote check in locations around Abu Dhabi. They allow you to print your boarding pass, select your seat and drop off your luggage up to 24 hours before your flight.

The locations are:

Location 1 – City Terminal Check In.

Location 2 – Abu Dhabi Int. Airport Expo Check in (at ADNEC).

Location 3 – Park Rotana Hotel Check In Kiosk.

Location 4 – Crowne Plaza in Abu Dhabi Yas Island Check In Kiosk.

City Terminal Check In

This check in is located in the business district and can be easily reached from many of the international hotels. Here you are able to check yourself and your luggage in up to 24 hours before you flight departure time.

The below airlines offer check in at the City Terminal:

Etihad Airways, Gulf Air, Egypt Air, Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian, Cathay Pacific, Air Berlin, Air Seychelles all allow you to check in up to 24 hours before the departure time.

Jet Airways allows you to check in up to 20 hours before the departure time.

Sudan Airways allows you to check in up to 15 hours before the departure time.

Air India and Air India Express allow you to check in up to 12 hours before the departure time.

Should you wish to check in luggage please arrive at least 5 hours before the departure time to allow enough time for the baggage to be transferred to the airport.

Abu Dhabi Int. Airport Expo Check In (ADNEC)

This is located at the National Exhibitions Centre and the service is available to international visitors at the ADNEC.  It allows you to check your baggage in to be transported to the airport for you. The facility is open 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

The below airlines offer check in at ADNEC:

Etihad Airways, Gulf Air, Egypt Air, Pakistan International Airlines, Air Berlin, Air Seychelles all allow you to check in up to 24 hours before the departure time.

Jet Airways allows you to check in up to 20 hours before the departure time.

Sudan Airways allows you to check in up to 15 hours before the departure time.

Air India and Air India Express allow you to check in up to 12 hours before the departure time.

Hotel Self Check in Kiosks

There are self-service kiosks located in Park Rotana Hotel in Abu Dhabi and Crowne Plaza in Abu Dhabi Yas Island which allow you to check in, print your boarding pass and label your bags before leaving the hotel. Once at the airport you will only have to go to the Bag Drop desks to check in your luggage.

The below airlines offer check in at the hotels:

KLM allows you to check in up to 30 hours before the departure time, Etihad Airways allows check in up to 24 hours before the departure time and Jet Airways allows you to check in up to 20 hours before the departure time. Cathay Pacific opens at 18:00 prior to the day of departure.

All check in facilities will close 4 hours before the flight departure time.

Fees do apply for check in at the City Terminal and ADNEC. There is no charge for guests using the check in kiosks at the hotels.

Abu Dhabi Security Check

Once you have checked in and dropped off your luggage you will need to make your way to the Security Check area. Here you will be asked to place all electronic items, metal objects and liquids (which comply with the regulations) in a tray.  You may also be asked to remove your belt and shoes.  These will be screened through an X-ray and you will need to walk through the metal detector.

Dedicated counters are available for veiled women offering discreet security checks.

When you have passed through security you will need to have your passport ready to go through passport control.  You are then free to enjoy the airport facilities and lounges before being called for your flight and heading to your boarding gate.

Abu Dhabi Departures Hall

The Abu Dhabi departure hall’s focal point is a huge suspended ring which is the main communication centre with 28 departure boards on the internal part of the ring.  Below the ring is a circle in the ground made of LED lights which provides the sensation of materials flowing down in to a central black hole.

There are many facilities to use around the departures hall which includes duty free shopping, restaurants and showers for travellers to freshen up.

There is free Wi-Fi throughout all terminals and internet kiosks with also provide sockets and USB ports.

There are 10 sleeping pods for travellers to get some rest in private before their flight.  They are currently situated in terminal 1 and 3 and the airport will be having another 35 installed later this year.  The “GoSleep” pod has a fold flat bed and a partial or fully enclosed sliding shade that shields the traveller from light and noise.  The pods are available for AED45 per hour and are on a first come first served basis.

Many banking services are available throughout the airport terminals such as ATMs and local and international banks offering a variety of services.  There are plenty of options available for travellers wishing to exchange currency throughout Abu Dhabi airport.  Postal services are also available and outlets for Emirates Post and Asian Gulf Travel are situated in all terminals.

Several lounges are available to First and Business Class passengers. For other travellers wishing to pay to use the lounges they can use the Al Reem and Al Dhabi Lounges in terminal 1 and the Al Ghazal Lounge in terminal 2.

The rates vary per lounge and travellers will have use of the area for up to four hours before their flight.  Terminal 3 has two lounges dedicated to Etihad Airways passengers.  The Al Dar VIP lounge situated in terminal 1 is available for a fee regardless of your airline and class.  This service must be pre booked either online or by phone.

A huge range of restaurants, bars and coffee shops can be accessed by travellers to enjoy a snack or meal before they fly.  A large variety of food options are for sale from fast food, pizzas to traditional Lebanese cuisine or just a fresh baguette at the well know Upper Crust outlet.
